Job SummaryThe Desk Operations/Conduct Coordinator is a Graduate Assistant who works in collaboration with Senior Staff and Resident Advisors to ensure the safety of campus residence halls. This position supports two areas: 1.) Desk Operations – assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of students who work as night desk clerks in the residence halls. 2.) Student Conduct – works as a hearing officer and assists with student follow-up/records management for the student conduct process. This position will report to the Assistant Director for Personnel and Business Operations.
General Expectations
- Support the mission and philosophy of Residence Life, emphasizing a commitment to developing a residential living & learning experience that engages & supports students.
- Become familiar with, follow, and enforce all policies and procedures in the Staff Resource Manual.
- Attend and participate appropriately in all Senior Staff Meetings, Area Meetings, and/or Committee Meetings.
- Maintain a professional attitude and behavior while in the position.
- Serve as a role model for residents, both on and off-campus. This includes abiding by all federal, state, & local laws and behaving in a manner consistent with the Office of Residence Life’s mission and values, both on and off-campus.
- Accept feedback and be willing to incorporate new ideas.
- Provide visible leadership for staff and residents.
- During the Academic year, interview and place all potential desk clerk candidates in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Staff Recruitment and Selection.
- Coordinate initial and ongoing training for Desk Clerk staff.
- Co-manage and help maintain the online Desk Clerk roster.
- Co-manage all front desk training records.
- Identify disciplinary and performance issues and work with Resident Directors to follow up appropriately.
- Assist with departmental staff selection activities such as Resident Advisor interviews.
- Serve as a hearing officer for student conduct cases in the residence halls, utilizing a restorative approach.
- Conduct Student Success Outreach meetings with students in the residence halls who may benefit from additional support and resources to support their academic, social, and wellbeing success.
- Facilitate risk and harm reduction educational programs as part of the CATS Engagement residential curriculum.
This employment agreement is for a single academic year and will remain in effect from the date signed until the residence halls close at the end of the academic year when it is signed. The Desk Operations/Conduct Coordinator will have to reapply in order to be reappointed for the following year. Reappointment to the Desk Operations/Conduct Coordinator position is not guaranteed and will be based on job availability, attitude, and job performance. Before the current agreement ends, the supervisor will notify the DOC whether their appointment as the DOC will be renewed for a subsequent academic year.
- Serve in the position for the length of my employment agreement, which begins no earlier than the start of Senior Staff Training in July and concludes after halls are closed and administrative responsibilities are completed in May.
- Be a full-time student and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 throughout the course of my employment.
- Not seek or accept outside employment while employed as a Senior Staff member.
- Have approval from my supervisor before committing to internships or other time-intensive academic program requirements.
- Receive written approval from my supervisor before registering for more than 9 credit hours in a semester or dropping to less than 6 hours.
- Be available until the halls are officially closed for each vacation period and return prior to opening after vacations period to assist with any desk clerk scheduling needs.
- Accept additional duties as assigned by my supervisor or other Central Office Team members.
