Physical Requirements

Occasional handling of items up to 50 lbs; extended periods of sitting and/or standing; and exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, burns, cuts/punctures, bloodborne/airborne pathogens, recombinant DNA or viral vectors, animal handling (including carcasses) and animal pathological specimens



Shift

8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with occasional weekends and some possible holidays.



Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) develops and applies state-of-the-art diagnostic methodology to improve animal health and marketability, to protect the public health and to assist in the preservation of the human-animal bond through the principles of One Health. This position is a vital member of the team serving as a Diagnostic Technician in the Bacteriology Section, whose duties include isolating, identifying and determining antimicrobial susceptibilities of bacteria and fungi that cause diseases in animals as well as media preparation, inventory checking and procurement, assistance with maintaining the QA/QC program and writing reports.

This position is located at the Coldstream Research Campus off Newtown Pike (great location and free parking).
