The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health screenings, growth monitoring, and referrals, along with monthly food benefits for eligible women, infants, and children up to age five. This professional Dietitian position involves providing direct high-risk nutrition counseling, care plans, education, and referrals to WIC participants using dietary, biochemical, medical, and anthropometric data. Dietitians also offer breastfeeding support and serve as consultants to WIC and Health Department staff, delivering all services in a culturally competent and participant-centered manner. The role requires understanding diverse cultures, traditions, and the impact of racism and socio-economic injustices on health disparities. This specific position is a Limited Duration assignment that floats between WIC locations and may include assisting with staff training and participating in outreach or work groups.
As the Dietitian, you will:
- Provide medical nutrition assessment, education, and care planning for high-risk women, infants, and children
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, including evaluation of weight, growth, BMI, blood work, medication use, typical diet, allergies, food insecurity, and other social/medical factors
- Develop individualized care plans and provide counseling/education in a culturally competent and sensitive manner
- Communicate with WIC participants in person, over the phone, and potentially through electronic means
- Determine nutrition risk, provide nutrition education, set goals, and assign food benefits
- Document all services in the State's TWIST electronic records system
- Schedule appropriate follow-up appointments
- Review, assess, and process WIC Medical Documents for appropriate client formula and supplements
- Communicate with health care providers to coordinate care and clarify information
- Offer breastfeeding promotion and information at prenatal WIC appointments
- Provide individualized support, including breast pump issuance and education, to breastfeeding mothers
- Make referrals to community and WIC clinic lactation specialists when necessary.
- Refer participants to local resources (health, food, housing, etc.)
- Serve as the clinic's nutrition content expert, providing consultation to other WIC staff
- Monitor the call back log and perform follow-up calls for food package changes, breastfeeding/formula issues, and review reports for clients needing follow-up

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree
- One (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Must be certified as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Commission for Dietetic Registration
- A valid BLS/ CPR card or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of hire is required.

Work Location: This position works onsite at the WIC AVIVA clinic at 458 SE 185th Ave, Portland, OR 97233 and other WIC clinic locations.
