Job Synopsis

The Dining Hall Lead, working under the direct supervision of the Dining Hall Manager, oversees and assists with the daily operations of the MCC Dining Hall when groups are on the Welcoming Place campus. This part-time role (20 hours per week) involves coordinating kitchen staff, preparing, serving, and cleaning up food, ensuring food safety and quality, and maintaining a clean and hygienic work environment.

We are hiring two Dining Hall Leads. One position will work primarily 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on weekdays and be available at least one weekend per month. The second position will have flexible weekday hours and also be available at least one weekend per month.

Work schedules may vary based on group needs, with occasional evening, weekday, or weekend shifts.

This position plays a vital role in upholding MCC’s core values of hospitality, stewardship, and teamwork in every aspect of food service and guest care. The work requires continuous standing, walking, bending, and moving.

Essential:

  • High school diploma, GED certificate or equivalent.
  • One or more years of experience working in a food service environment, preferably in a kitchen setting.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques, including grilling, sautéing, roasting, and poaching.
  • Understanding of kitchen operations, including the proper use of equipment such as fryers, flat tops and broilers.
  • Ability to follow recipes accurately and adjust them based on group size or specific needs.
  • Willingness to complete/maintain training for ServSafe certification.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Prioritization and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work on feet for extended periods (8-hour shifts)
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Can work from set instructions but has ability to evaluate changing situations and make adjustment on work tasks when faced with special or unexpected needs.

Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:

  • 1 year of experience with restaurant service.
  • ServeSafe Certification.
  • Spanish Language skills.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning appliances (dishwasher, etc.) and their operations and proper use of cleaning agents.
  • Valid US Drivers license with acceptable driving record and willingness to help with local grocery shopping.

Key Responsibilities

Specific Tasks and Duties: Kitchen – 100%

Kitchen/Dining Hall Tasks:

  • Oversees food preparation, serving and clean up.
  • In the absence of the Dining Hall Manager, coordinate kitchen staff and oversee meal preparation, following recipes and ensuring meals are prepared as planned by the Dining Hall Manager and adjusted for group size.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic food preparation area according to required standards.
  • Maintain proper food temperatures and appearance of food.
  • Responsible for proper storage of leftovers.
  • Wash utensils, dishes, and ensure proper storage.
  • Sort, store and distribute ingredients.
  • Handle and prepare food safely according to required standards, including washing, peeling, chopping, cutting, cooking, and preparing salads and desserts.
  • Clean and sanitize the food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all dining staff, supervisors, event planners, and dining guests.

  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.

Supervision: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Indirect supervision: Serves as the “kitchen lead” when the Dining Hall Manager is not present.

Travel expectations: 5% locally for occasional grocery shopping

Salary Details

Base salary: $18.75. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $20.84 based on previous experience.
