Position Summary
The Director of Pricing Strategy is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing pricing strategies that drive margin improvement, strengthen competitive positioning, and support market share growth. This role partners closely with sales, merchandising, finance, content, and marketing to develop profit-maximizing pricing structures. The Director leads the development of pricing models, oversees price file production and system interfaces, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of all pricing-related data. This position also manages the Pricing Operations team, the Deviated Pricing team, the Pricing Analyst team, and plays a key role in continuous improvement initiatives across pricing processes and tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Pricing Strategy & Margin Optimization
• Develop and implement pricing strategies that improve margin while maintaining competitiveness and customer focus.
• Analyze competitive market conditions and assess their impact on pricing, margins, and sales.
• Identify margin enhancement opportunities and build models that highlight pricing performance and improvement areas.
• Recommend innovative pricing strategies designed to maximize margin and streamline workflows for better operational speed and service quality
• Participate in pricing strategy development and lead execution across teams.
• Pricing Operations, Systems & Data Management
• Oversee production, accuracy, and maintenance of all price files, systems interfaces, and related data.
• Ensure team members understand systems, interfaces, constraints, and workflows that drive pricing operations.
• Manage cost updates, including communication with manufacturers and maintenance of list, cost, and promotional pricing.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance pricing processes, data availability, and operational efficiency.
Contract & Deviated Pricing Management
• Lead the Pricing Operations Team, ensuring accurate and timely production and implementation of all contracts.
• Oversee the Deviated Pricing Team, including governance, process improvement, and alignment with pricing strategy.
• Oversee the Pricing Analyst Team, offering guidance as they work with sales to maximize profit
• Work with the field to ensure proper understanding and execution of contracts and pricing strategies.
• Manage price points for standard contracts, consumer matrices, and bids.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
• Maintain and communicate a clear understanding of the company’s pricing philosophy across merchandising, marketing, sales, and leadership.
• Collaborate with the analytics team to leverage systems and tools that deliver actionable insights.
• Influence and manage internal relationships to achieve pricing and margin objectives.
• Educate field teams to ensure alignment and proper implementation of pricing strategies.
Vendor & Technology Partner Management
• Manage the relationship with our Pricing Optimization software provider (Conga) to leverage technology to streamline pricing analysis and adjustments
• Communicate directly with manufacturers regarding cost updates and pricing changes.
Skills and Qualifications
• Strong analytical background with experience developing pricing strategies in complex, competitive environments
• Proven ability to build and interpret pricing models and extract insights that influence decisions
• Experience in high-SKU environments and competitive market analysis
• Demonstrated success communicating strategic initiatives to all levels of management
• Strong project management skills with a disciplined, process-oriented approach
• Experience working in a matrixed organization with the ability to influence and build consensus
Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• MBA strongly preferred
• Experience working with a Pricing Optimization & Management tool (PROS, Conga or equivalent)
• Advanced Excel skills (e.g., macros, Power Query, complex formulas, pivot tables)
• Proficiency in pricing-related mathematical concepts
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Experience leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for data analysis or automation preferred
• Product knowledge in business products, janitorial supplies, or office products preferred
• Distribution or wholesale background preferred
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to organize and prioritize.
