Physical Requirements

Sitting for long periods of time, lifting pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 lbs. walking to/from meetings
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (40+ hours per week). May work at various on-campus or off-campus locations and transport materials and/or equipment to support and/or provide services. Please be aware that as an exempt position, job duties may occasionally require additional time in the evenings, nights and/or weekends to accomplish work goals in excess of 40 hours per week.

Job Summary

The University of Kentucky (UK) is seeking a Director to provide operational leadership for the university’s physical network infrastructure. This position oversees Inside and Outside Plant operations, GIS, and infrastructure planning for construction projects, ensuring all work aligns with established standards. The Director leads teams responsible for cabling, pathways, field infrastructure, incident response, and network service delivery across campus.

Preferred Education/Experience

Experience in a large-scale enterprise, higher education, or healthcare environment is highly desirable.
In-depth knowledge of inside and outside plant systems, including copper and fiber cabling, telecom rooms, and physical network pathways.
Demonstrated experience managing technical staff and overseeing contractors or vendor relationships in support of infrastructure projects.
Experience supporting construction and renovation projects, including reviewing plans and coordinating infrastructure needs with project teams.
Understanding of IT service operations, including structured response to infrastructure issues and coordination of after-hours support.
Awareness of trends in network infrastructure, cabling technologies, and design tools to help improve services and support planning.
Familiarity with applicable codes and safety standards (e.g., BICSI, NEC, OSHA, NFPA).
Proficiency in using infrastructure documentation tools (e.g., GIS, CAD, cable management systems) is preferred.
