Reporting to the Sr Director of Medical Operations and Product Sciences, the Director will represent US Medical Affairs as therapeutic area expert (PAN-CAR T) and provide clinical/scientific leadership and support for approved CAR T products as well as CAR T compounds in various stages of clinical development. He/she will be the primary point of contact for handling nonconforming CAR T products developing communication plans for site level strategy. This individual’s responsibilities will include strategic and tactical planning of medical affairs CAR T program site support and the point of contact for internal site launch experience. He/she will represent US Medical Affairs as needed, serving as a therapeutic area expert in PAN-CAR T products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary medical director point of contact for field medical team (MSL) and CAR T sites within designated region.
  • Primary medical point of contact for sites of care as it relates to non-conforming product, special treatment scenarios and OOS.
  • Ensure positive first CAR T clinical experience for each product at individual sites.
  • Educate sites of care of the non-conforming communication processes and ensure optimal communication and partnership with sites
  • Collaborate on various Medical Affairs cross-functional working groups with priority to activities related manufacturing success and TAT improvements
  • Evaluate, assess, design, enhance and develop long and short-term strategies (1-5 years) that enhance the impact of Cell Therapy Medical Affairs with customers as it relates to non-conforming product
  • Monitor insights to inform and educate stakeholders, developing action plans as needed
  • Provide high quality clinical input and review of the following but not limited to: CAR T strategy plans, abstracts, posters, slides, manuscripts, educational materials, steering committee and advisory board meeting objectives, Medical information letters, and Commercial Brand plans.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including high-profile academic institutions, industry leaders, hospital networks and community organizations
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to influence process change
  • Collaborate with internal disease leads to ensure alignment on strategic medical initiatives as they relate to manufacturing improvements
  • Serve as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and information sharing.
  • Point of escalation for nonconforming CAR T products and special treatment scenarios including off-label requests, re-treatment and infectious disease related clinical scenario.
  • Understand and develop site points of pain problem lists with clinical relevance.
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs launch leads to define, guide and execute CAR T strategies and tactics with appropriate use of resources.
  • Support CAR T medical affairs studies (e.g. registries, protocols).
  • Provide therapy area medical and scientific expertise to clinical study teams and key stakeholders.
  • Represent the US Medical Affairs as a therapeutic expert at ad boards and steering committee.
  • Represent BMS at professional meetings, congresses, and local symposia.
  • Cultivate and nurture strong collaborations, relationships and support with Investigators, Academic partners and KOL’s.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require 20% travel to attend meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • REQUIRED: MD, DO, or MD/PhD board certified in Hematology/Oncology.
  • 8-10 years academic/industry experience strongly preferred, including expertise in cellular therapy/hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and/or hematological malignancies is a strong plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and solid experience in translating medical/clinical information into medical affairs strategies.
  • Proficiency in critical data review and interpretation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentations to large groups, Sr leadership, facilitation of interactive discussions, and 1:1 discussions with thought leaders and hospital organizations.
  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated strength in understanding overarching company goals, performing strategic assessments, and developing clearly framed choices and recommendations. Proven record of managing complex interactions that drive business strategy & priorities engaging both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cross-Functional Experience: Experience working across a range of medical and/or clinical development roles is a plus. Highly collaborative, possess a record of building and maintaining cross-functional relationships, and able to communicate business topics effectively with senior leadership, peers, and others.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience in analytics, particularly in relation to product launches. Able to innovate, analyze and solve problems with diligence.
  • Project Management: Experience in project and/or portfolio management with the ability to develop clear action plans and execute them.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build relationships, influence, and drive organizational engagement at all levels.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, negotiate, and collaborate.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, high-level negotiation skills, and the ability to resolve conflict constructively. Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated customer focus orientation and credibility with customers.
  • Knowledge/application of data sources, reports and tools for the creation of solid plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, public communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven track record of managing complex interactions
  • Able to innovate, analyze and solve problems with attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $240,000 - $290,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.

Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
