Position
Hire Heroes USA is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking Director of People Operations to lead our organization-wide human capital efforts. As a member of the leadership team, this position will be responsible for designing and driving people strategies that enhance employee experience, improve organizational effectiveness, and build a culture of high performance.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in employee relations, change leadership, and organizational design, along with a strong command of HR operations and compliance. This is a highly collaborative role, requiring frequent partnership with the executive team and program leaders across the country.
Location: This is a full-time, hybrid role. Applicants should reside within commuting distance of our Alpharetta, GA, Colorado Springs, CO, or Raleigh, NC, Office Locations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a thought partner to the executive team on people strategy, workforce planning, organizational design, and change management
- Act as a trusted advisor to managers and staff on employee relations matters, fostering a workplace culture that values respect, accountability, and continuous feedback.
- Lead investigations, coach managers through complex employee scenarios, and resolve issues with fairness, discretion, and legal compliance.
- Champion employee engagement and recognition efforts, regularly assessing organizational health through surveys and feedback loops.
- Oversee performance management processes that are continuous, developmental, and tied to strategic goals.
- Annually review and recommend updates to compensation structures and benefits offerings to ensure competitiveness, internal equity, and alignment with nonprofit best practices.
- Serve as liaison to legal counsel on employment law matters and ensure HR policies remain current and risk-mitigating.
- Supervise People Operations staff and collaborate with vendors to ensure excellence in service delivery, data integrity, and continuous improvement; Oversee HR systems and workflows, ensuring they are efficient, employee-friendly, and aligned with organizational goals.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with direct oversight of employee relations and organizational design; nonprofit experience preferred
- Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and align people strategies with organizational objectives
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or related field or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated success leading performance management, talent development, and culture-building initiatives
- Deep knowledge of federal and state labor laws and nonprofit HR compliance
- Exceptional interpersonal, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; comfortable navigating data and metrics to inform decisions
- Tech-savvy and familiar with HRIS platforms, data dashboards, and modern HR tools
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
Estimated New Hire Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 annually

Salary range
- $100,000 - $120,000
