Director of Research

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Director of Research will provide strategic oversight and direction for research studies.
  • Coordinate, manage and monitor internal and external research projects at Caron.
  • Monitor industry trends to determine how Caron can contribute to research and/or initiate strategic partnerships with key industry partners.
  • The Director of Research will proactively produce relevant research papers, journal articles, clinical research-based booklets, pamphlets and other research based promotional materials in conjunction with organizational strategic plans. Ongoing publishing of research to further Caron’s treatment services as well as keep the organization visible in the field of addictions treatment.
  • Facilitate monthly research committee meetings in PA.
  • Submissions to professional/trade publications and peer reviewed journal on research occurring at Caron.
  • The Director of Research will present research and training at local, regional, statewide and national addictions conferences.
  • Expand research collaborations with academic, industry and behavioral health organizations.
  • Oversee analysis of research data and provide written reports on the results.
  • Supervision of research staff and intern(s) on all above defined tasks.
  • Provide internal consultation to program directors and other administrators on the design and implementation of performance improvement, studies, outcome studies, organizational development studies and other internal assessment and evaluation initiatives and projects.
  • Continued outcome development and reporting through co-oversight of outcomes project management related to Caron strategic blueprint.
  • Reporting to Senior Leadership, Executive and the Board as required.
  • Complete an annual summary of research activities at Caron.
  • The Director of Research will continually seek funding of research at Caron through grants and/or collaborative efforts with institutions of higher learning.
  • Compose and manage the research department’s annual budget.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD. with demonstrated competence in the management of research teams, application of research methods and training and development.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the addictions field or related human service field.
  • Trained in staff and organizational development
  • If in recovery, a minimum of 1-year sobriety preferred.

  • Must be able to travel for conferences through air and other forms of travel.
  • Must be able to present to audience in large and small group settings, which may require long periods of time and be of multiple presentations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be skilled in research design and analysis, and the application of statistical methods.
  • Demonstrated skill in professional writing.
  • Skilled at public speaking and in public relations.

COMPETENCIES / MEASUREMENTS:

  • Research results at Caron are based on valid and reliable data with and results obtained through the use of solid and accepted research practice principles. Error rates are assessed and reported. This will be measured by reports from the department as well as documentation of how data was validated and cleaned prior to use.
  • Research is presented internally in a manner that is understood by Leadership staff. Reports are concise, in the proper language and accurate.
  • Annual research report is complete, comprehensive and relevant for application to treatment in the addiction field is articulated.
  • Projects undertaken by Department are well designed and clinically relevant, promote advances in the treatment field or further the knowledge in the addiction community.
  • Research at Caron is publishable with measurement being the number of submissions of work for publication.
