Director of ReStore Sales & Operations

Posting Description

The Director of ReStore Sales & Operations provides enterprise-level leadership for all Habitat SCNJ ReStore locations, with full accountability for sales performance, operational excellence, financial results, customer experience, and mission integration. This role is responsible for translating Habitat SCNJ’s strategic goals into measurable retail results, ensuring consistent operations across stores, and driving sustainable revenue growth to support the Affiliate’s housing mission.

The Director works closely with the CEO, ReStore Committee, and senior leadership team, and directly oversees ReStore Store Managers and the Director of ReStore Procurement & Logistics.

Core Responsibilities
* Sales, Revenue Growth & Financial Accountability
* Maintain full P&L accountability for individual and collective ReStore performance
* Partner with Finance to develop, manage, and forecast store budgets and financial targets
* Drive top-line revenue through pricing strategy, merchandising standards, promotions, events, and sales initiatives
* Monitor and improve key retail KPIs including sales per square foot, gross margin, labor productivity, inventory turn, and net contribution
* Control expenses and identify opportunities to reduce operational and administrative costs
* Prepare and present regular performance reports to the ReStore Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors

Multi-Store Operations & Performance Management
* Ensure consistent, efficient, and compliant operations across all ReStore locations
* Establish and enforce operational standards, procedures, and performance expectations
* Regularly assess store conditions, safety, asset management, and facility maintenance
* Review inventory ownership, category performance, pricing consistency, and sell-through by location
* Provide timely coaching, feedback, and formal performance evaluations for store leadership
* Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and shared ownership of results

Leadership, Culture & Human Capital
* Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing ReStore leadership team
* Partner closely with Human Resources to address employee relations, performance management, and corrective action
* Ensure staff and volunteers are effectively trained, engaged, and aligned with Habitat’s mission
* Support workforce planning, succession development, and leadership continuity
* Maintain a workplace culture grounded in fairness, transparency, and respect

Procurement & Logistics Oversight
* Provide strategic oversight to the Procurement & Logistics function to ensure strong inbound and outbound merchandise flow
* Align procurement strategies with sales trends, inventory needs, and financial targets
* Evaluate the balance of donated and purchased product to maximize margin and mission impact
* Support expansion of commercial, residential, and affiliate-based procurement partnerships

Marketing, Community Engagement & Customer Experience
* Develop and oversee an annual marketing and promotions calendar to drive store traffic and sales
* Strengthen ReStore brand presence through digital marketing, social media, and community outreach
* Serve as a visible ambassador for Habitat SCNJ ReStores with donors, customers, volunteers, and community partners
* Partner with Volunteer Engagement to deliver excellent volunteer and customer experiences
* Collaborate with Development and Communications teams to align messaging with the Affiliate’s mission and goals

Planning, Measurement & Organizational Integration
* Lead annual and multi-year ReStore sales and operations planning aligned with Habitat SCNJ’s strategic plan
* Improve data literacy and performance transparency through consistent reporting and analytics
* Leverage technology and systems to improve operational efficiency and decision-making
* Participate in Affiliate leadership meetings to ensure alignment and visibility across departments
* Identify operational risks, gaps, and opportunities and recommend corrective actions

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Strong retail and multi-site operational leadership experience
* Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth using metrics and performance management
* High level of financial acumen and comfort with P&L ownership
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to manage complexity, prioritize effectively, and lead through change
* Strong commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission and values

Education & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree required (or equivalent experience)
* Minimum of 7–10 years of retail operations or sales leadership experience
* Experience managing multi-store operations preferred
* Nonprofit or mission-driven retail experience a plus

Compensation & Benefits
* Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000
* Eligible for medical, dental, vision, vacation, sick time, holidays, and incentive compensation per Habitat SCNJ policy

Physical & Other Requirements
* Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
* Ability to work in retail, warehouse, and office environments
