It is a major distributor of tequila and other spirits, best known for Jose Cuervo, the world's largest-selling tequila brand. With over 300 employees, the Lawrenceburg, IN facility (Proximo Distillers Indiana - PDI) bottles about 15 million cases a year for all of North America.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The EHS Manager provides both strategic and tactical leadership for all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities at Proximo’s Lawrenceburg, IN plant. This role ensures the safety of employees and visitors, regulatory compliance, and environmental responsibility while fostering a culture where safety and accountability are part of every decision. As a key member of the leadership team, the EHS Manager will drive continuous improvement, oversee workers’ compensation and site security, and lead emergency preparedness efforts.
Strategic Leadership
- Define and deliver the long-term EHS roadmap aligned with Proximo North America’s goals
- Serve as a key voice on the plant leadership team, influencing strategy and policy setting
- Drive the Zero Loss journey through loss analysis, corrective actions, and proactive safety practices
Safety Culture & Engagement
- Champion a proactive, psychologically safe work environment where employees take ownership of safety
- Lead the EHS pillar of TPM, embedding safety into daily operations and culture
- Develop and execute training programs that strengthen safety competencies across all teams
Systems & Compliance
- Oversee all OSHA, EPA, and regulatory requirements with full compliance and transparency
- Lead and standardize safety and environmental systems across the site and share best practices companywide
- Prepare and maintain required records, including OSHA logs, audits, and environmental reports
Operational Excellence
- Manage emergency response programs, chemical handling, and CAPEX safety-related projects
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims and the return-to-work program
- Provide expert guidance during new equipment or technology planning to ensure safety safeguards
- Lead internal and external audits, coordinating timely resolution of findings
Collaboration & Influence
- Act as liaison with regulatory agencies and external partners on EHS matters
- Share best practices across departments and sites, driving alignment and continuous improvement
- Represent the plant at safety conferences and industry forums to stay ahead of trends and standards
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of EHS leadership experience in manufacturing (chemical or spirits industry preferred)
- OSHA Certified Safety Manager (or equivalent) certification required
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other U.S. regulatory requirements
- Proven success implementing safety systems (LOTO, hazard communication, emergency response)
- Strong knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation
- Demonstrated leadership driving cultural change and continuous improvement
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (Excel or similar)
- Experience in a unionized environment preferred
- Flexibility to support a 24/7 operation across all shifts
