Senior Electrical Engineer – Buildings | Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
RS&H is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our growing Buildings team in Chicago. This is an opportunity to work on impactful and complex projects while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and design professionals in a flexible hybrid work environment.
We’re looking for a technically strong, client-focused engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, mentoring emerging professionals, and contributing to projects that shape communities and the built environment. Whether leading project efforts, collaborating across disciplines, or building client relationships, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions and driving project success.
What You’ll Do- Lead and support the electrical design and coordination of diverse building projects from planning through construction
- Develop engineering reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, and project managers
- Engage directly with clients to understand project goals, provide technical guidance, and deliver innovative solutions
- Support proposal development, presentations, and other business development initiatives
- Conduct quality control reviews, field observations, and construction administration activities
- Review and guide junior staff’s work while mentoring developing engineers and designers
- Serve as a technical resource and project lead on moderate to large-scale projects
- Assist with project scopes, schedules, staffing coordination, and budget oversight
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing
- 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience within the buildings industry
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and design standards
- Experience producing construction documents and working within production software platforms
- Ability to lead technical discussions and navigate complex project challenges professionally and collaboratively
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing work for technical accuracy
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, contractors, and internal teams
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required due to federal project requirements

The salary range for this position in Chicago is $1100,000–$145,000 per year, representing the employer’s goodfaith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be based on jobrelated skills, experience, internal equity, and geographic location, where applicable.
This role may also be eligible for additional compensation and benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, an employee assistance program, retirement and financial protection programs (401(k), short and longterm disability), paid time off (including holidays and paid parental leave), and HSA funding up to $1,200 annually.
