About the position The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans to optimize sales, profitability, and market share for assigned product categories. This role combines bulk buys, market analysis, supplier negotiation, pricing strategy, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure that category performance aligns with organizational goals, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives, and regulations. - Collaborates with Operations and Procurement to develop materials and logistics expertise for bulk buys in assigned categories nationally.
- Develops and implements category strategies based on historical performance data, emerging trends, and evolving customer needs.
- Identifies and curates an optimal product mix for assigned categories, ensuring relevance to project specifications.
- Leads supplier negotiations to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service agreements. Evaluates vendor performance and builds long-term partnerships to ensure supply chain efficiency.
- Establishes and manages pricing strategies to achieve margin targets, competitive positioning, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with marketing team to create compelling campaigns and materials.
- Tracks category KPIs (sales, margin, turnover, etc.), analyzes trends, and adjusts category plans to meet or exceed business objectives.
- Conducts ongoing analysis of procurement behaviors, customer needs, and competitive landscape to identify new business opportunities or risks.
- Collaborates with sales, operations, procurement, and finance teams to ensure alignment and execution of category plans.
- Identifies opportunities for process enhancements, cost savings, and innovation within the category management function.
- Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
- Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
- Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
- Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain, Marketing, or related field (required)
- Minimum 6 years of category management or procurement experiencepreferably in the electrical contracting or industrial distribution industry.
- Strong understanding of electrical products, applications, and contractor purchasing behaviors.
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives, negotiate with vendors, and influence cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with electrical wholesale or distribution channels preferred.
- Familiarity with contractor job site needs, bidding processes, and project cycles.
- Knowledge of pricing and inventory management software platforms.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong planning, organization, and project management skills.
