Job Description
Position Purpose:
This is a skilled and experienced level position in the maintenance and electrical field. Individuals in this position are assigned the responsibility to maintain, diagnose and repair equipment in the wastewater and drinking water field. The individual must possess the ability and licensure to install, diagnose and repair medium and low voltage equipment as needed. Under general direction and following established guidelines, the successful candidate uses self-motivation and independent judgment in scheduling work, means & methods and equipment needed to perform assigned tasks. May function in a supervisory role during field crew activities - planning, assigning, supervising and checking completed work performed by assigned fellow employees and contractors.

Pay Range: $30.00 to $40.00 per hour.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Shall have the ability to receive written or verbal instruction and fully plan for the completion of the requested task. Communicate with the public and co-workers in a tactful and effective manner. Perform work involving prolonged periods of standing, stooping, reaching, crawling and climbing. Read and interpret work orders, diagrams, blueprints and maps; use hammers, nails, drills, saws, wrenches and other basic hand tools.

- Keep records.
- Trouble-shoot and repair.
- Schedule routine maintenance and daily work.
- Obtain and set up equipment, tools and materials needed for work.
- Determine best way to set up job site in a safe and orderly manner.
- Set up and monitor safety procedures.
- Supervise work.
- Train fellow employees in the operation of equipment and safety practices.
- Provide supervisors with input on work performance of crew members.
- Anticipate, be alert to, and report indicators of problems in completing projects as planned.
- Trouble-shoot, diagnose and solve problems in both mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Readjust priorities and reallocate resources to deal with unexpected problems or emergencies.
- Fill in for absent crew members or for crew supervisor when necessary.
- In some situations, respond to complaints and answer questions from the general public.
- Make written and oral reports of work completed and in progress and work needing to be done by others.
- Read maps, diagrams, blueprints, schematics and work orders.
- Fill out material requisitions, incident reports, inspection sheets and other forms.
- Order and purchase parts and equipment; maintain inventory of needed parts and tools.
- Use gas detector to test quality of air in vaults and confined workspaces.
- Operate valves, pump stations, and monitor control panels.
- Perform after hours emergency response.
- Attend courses and seminars and confer with peers outside of the company to keep updated regarding changes in applicable laws and regulations, new products, equipment and techniques.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Three years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of lift stations, water and wastewater facilities, advanced training in facilities maintenance and operations, skilled crafts or other specialty specifically relevant to the area of assignment is highly desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- General knowledge of mechanical equipment and repair required.
- Knowledge of and the ability to read electrical diagrams - with the ability to trouble shoot electrical systems - is required.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Obtain and maintain all required license.
- Must have proper license to perform work on medium and low voltage equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Works in various positions; works on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of up to 20 feet above the ground; and works with hands extended above and below head and body up to 40 minutes using hand tools weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds (occasionally 50 pounds) distances of 10 feet.
