Responsibilities
Engineer-In-Training assists with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Utility Coordination efforts for various types of projects by supporting utility investigations, reviewing design plans, analyzing field data, and helping deliver accurate existing utility information for design and construction projects. Under the direction of an Engineer, helps coordinate field efforts, utility conflict analysis, and utility mapping in accordance with ASCE 38-22 Standards.
Requires successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE). Work requires working closely with SUE field teams, utility owners, engineers, and project managers to verify utility location and depths, reduce risk during design, and support utility relocation planning.
- Support SUE investigations
- Foster continuous coordination between all stakeholders
- Review utility as-builts, one-call tickets, record drawings, and GIS data
- Assist with underground utility conflict identification and risk anaysis
- Interpret geophysical utiltiy locating data
- Coordinate with field crews and Project Managers
- Prepare utility base maps, conflict matrices, utility exhibits, and SUE deliverables
- Assist with ASCE 38-22 quaility level documentation and reporting
- Participate in field visits to verify site conditions and support problem solutions
- Track utility risks, relocation needs, and coordination efforts throughout project development
- Prepare meeting notes, technical reports, and client correspondence
- Maintain effective client relationships and leverage project experience to win work
- Assist with the coordination, development and production of proposals, SOQs and presentations, ensuring the highest quality of information and documentation output
- Review implementation of established procedures and implement preventive and corrective actions
- Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the Company’s strategic goals
Qualifications
- Must demonstrate Certificate of Engineer in Training (EIT)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or related Engineering program
- Thorough knowledge of Client / TxDOT specifications and standards preferred
- 0-4 years of experience in Civil Engineering, SUE, Utility Coordination, or infrastructure projects preferred
- Familiarity with ASCE 38-22 standards and utility engineering practices preferred
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, OpenRoads, GIS, and Bluebeam
- Proficient in MS Word / Excel / Outlook
- Motivated to develop business from new and existing clients
- Availability to work outside normal business hours as required
- Basic understanding of fundamental cost accounting practices
- Excellent listening, communication and organizational skills
