Job Summary
The coordinator is responsible for developing, managing, and supporting manufacturing, mechatronics, engineering technology, electrical/electronics, engineering, and apprenticeship programs. This includes industry collaboration, faculty support, student engagement, and oversight of lab operations. The role ensures that programs remain current, industry-relevant, and aligned with workforce needs while also supporting faculty, recruitment efforts, and student success. The coordinator supports teaching and learning through curriculum development, program assessment, and teaching of coursework under the direction of the Dean.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.

Program Development & Curriculum Management
1. Oversee implementation and continuous improvement of curriculum for manufacturing, mechatronics, engineering technology, and apprenticeship programs.
2. Ensure programs meet regional industry demands and align with workforce development needs.
3. Work with faculty and industry partners to review, update, and modernize course content.
4. Ensure compliance with accreditation and certification requirements.
5. Assist in developing new courses and programs based on employer feedback and student interest.

Faculty & Instructional Support
1. Teach courses in Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Electrical and/or Engineering Technology, as needed based on candidate credentials. (Courses taught outside of normal working hours will be compensated by additional stipend.)
2. Provide guidance and support for adjunct faculty in program delivery.
3. Assist with faculty recruitment, training, and evaluation as needed.
4. Support faculty with instructional resources, labs, and classroom technology.
5. Serve as contact person and software administrator for instructional technology and resources, such as Amatrol.
6. Proctor certification testing for students as part of their coursework, such as NIMS Certification.

Industry Engagement & Advisory Committees
1. Collaborate with local employers and industry experts to align curriculum with workforce needs.
2. Organize and participate in Advisory Committee meetings to gather industry input.
3. Develop partnerships with employers to support internships, career pathways, and hands-on learning opportunities.
4. Coordinate Apprenticeships by maintaining student rosters, apprentice programs of study with industry partners, fostering external industry relationship and troubleshooting ongoing student/industry needs, communicating with related RVC departments and faculty.

Lab & Equipment Oversight
1. Work with the Lab Technician to maintain equipment functionality and readiness.
2. Ensure software and hardware resources are updated and available for instruction.
3. Develop budget recommendations for equipment purchases and program expansion.
4. Collaborate with IT and faculty to update or acquire instructional technology (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, Immerse2Learn).

Student Recruitment, Retention, & Success
1. Coordinate with Marketing, Student Services, and faculty to recruit students into the programs.
2. Support student retention and completion efforts, ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed.
3. Assist students in career preparation, including industry certifications and job placement support.
4. Participate in campus and community outreach events to promote Engineering and Technology programs, including summer camps.
5. Assist with the coordination of the NIU @ RVC program, including recruitment, student success efforts, and alignment with NIU’s College of Engineering.
6. Assist in work-based placement (e.g., internships, apprenticeships, post-graduation opportunities).

Administrative Responsibilities
1. Ensure classroom and lab schedules are accurately assigned to courses each semester.
2. Work with the Administrative Assistant to verify that all instructors have access to classrooms, storage closets, and equipment.
3. Manage software renewals and updates for instructional programs (SolidWorks, Mastercam, Immerse2Learn).
4. Collaborate with IT to ensure all classroom and lab computers have updated software for instructional use.
5. Maintain accurate student records, program reports, and institutional documents.
6. Attend college meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
7. Represent the program at college-wide and external events.
8. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, institutional policies, and industry standards.
9. Coordinate and manage the application, registration, record keeping, and academic progress of apprenticeship students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Education, or Business) or an Associate of Applied Science degree in a related technical field (e.g., Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics) or Certificate of Completion/Industry-recognized credential with 2 years of related work experience.
2. At least one year of work experience in a relevant engineering, manufacturing, educational, or technical field.
3. Knowledge of and experience in manufacturing, engineering, Career and Technical Education (CTE), or workforce development fields.
4. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and industry partners to support program operations and continuous improvement.
5. Proficiency with standard computer applications and data management tools.
6. Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
1. One to three years of experience in manufacturing, engineering technology, mechatronics, or Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
2. Experience with budget coordination, scheduling, or resource planning for academic or training programs.
3. Experience supporting or delivering technical instruction in an educational or training environment.
4. Experience managing instructional labs or facilities, including equipment maintenance, purchasing, and safety compliance.
5. Familiarity with software or technologies commonly used in engineering and manufacturing education (e.g., design, simulation, or automation tools).
6. Experience collaborating with employers, industry partners, or workforce development organizations.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office and instruction lab setting. Frequent interaction with faculty, students, and external partners. Occasional evening or weekend hours required for special events, recruitment efforts, and test proctoring. Location will be at the Main Campus in Rockford, IL and the Advanced Technology Center in Belvidere, IL
