Job Summary

Provides operational and administrative support to campus environmental health and safety programs. Assists with safety inspections, compliance activities, training coordination, and documentation to support a safe and compliant learning and working environment. Works under the direction of a supervisor and the system-level EHS team to implement established safety programs and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Conducts routine safety walk-throughs of campus facilities, classrooms, laboratories, and work areas to identify potential hazards. Documents observations and reports findings to the supervisor or appropriate stakeholders.
  • Assists with follow-up actions and corrective measures as directed.
  • Provides operational support for environmental health and safety compliance programs, including OSHA, hazardous materials, chemical safety, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Assists with maintaining safety records, inventories, logs, and documentation.
  • Supports proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with coordinating required safety training for faculty and staff, including scheduling, tracking, and documentation.
  • Maintains accurate training and compliance records.
  • Distributes training materials and provides basic safety guidance to employees under supervisory direction, including support for First Aid/CPR/BLS recordkeeping.
  • Supports day-to-day implementation of campus safety programs and initiatives.
  • Works with local safety contacts and the system-level EHS team to complete assigned tasks and activities.
  • Identifies recurring concerns or trends and communicates observations to leadership for review.
  • Performs basic purchasing, scheduling, and coordination related to safety supplies, inspections, or external services.
  • Assists with incident documentation, reports, and maintaining safety files.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Up to 1 year of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of safety training programs
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and recordkeeping skills to ensure compliance and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and influence safety culture.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Previous experience in a community college setting

Additional Information:

  • Environment: Primarily office-based with frequent visits to laboratories, classrooms, and other campus facilities to conduct safety assessments. Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting or moving of safety equipment and hazardous materials; ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
  • Exposure: May involve limited exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and other hazardous substances during inspections and compliance activities.
  • Schedule: Standard business hours with flexibility for emergency response or special projects; occasional training sessions outside normal hours.
  • Travel: Minimal, typically within campus locations.
