Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Utilities Systems Manager for Utilities & Energy Management as well as Controls Engineering, this position serves as subject matter expert in building automation controls commissioning, control systems (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Tridium), and sequence of operations; Oversees all controls related work on projects assigned to the Controls Engineering Team; Creates and develops targeted scope-of-work, schedules, and budgets for controls projects; Collaborates closely with the Controls Engineering Supervisor – Projects on scheduling timelines, and project processes and procedures, including project process flow, device integration, point integration, graphics, trends, alarms, and special applications; Leads meetings and communicates processes and schedules; Advises Controls Engineering Technicians and Facilities Systems Technicians assigned to projects on technical and procedural issues related to controls project work, as necessary; Serves as key technical resource for Project Managers assigned to Facilities Project Management and/or Capital Project Management in defining scope of projects, tracking progress, ensuring timely and transparent information sharing, and compliance with project requirements.

In addition, the Facilities Systems & Projects Engineer oversees the controls requirements of energy management projects and building automation systems (BAS) campus-wide, including budget accountability; Participates in the design and development of new structures, machines/equipment, software, and systems; Actively engages in strategic initiatives to develop innovative technologies, such as new equipment, software, and healthcare devices; Collaborates on innovative controls projects like artificial intelligence, robotics, and sustainable energy; Works to maintain existing systems and processes making them more efficient, safer, and sustainable; Ensures the safety and efficiency of systems that impact daily life and the continuous operations of both the University academic and healthcare campuses and Conceptualizes, creates, and delivers new training programs and processes to support new structures, machines/equipment, software, and systems.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

MS Windows/Office; MS Project; SAP; Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Captivate

Driver’s License — Preferred

Demonstrated experience in business systems application, consulting, or development; Building Automation Systems (BAS) and related equipment, including programming, installation, design, integration, and commissioning; Project Management, including developing process flows and scope of work; Demonstrated experience developing and administering training classes; and Experience in management or leadership of an engineering or energy management team; budget planning and control.
