Position Title: Family Therapist
Department: Monarch Program
Reports To: Sr. Clinical Director
Purpose: The Family Therapist is a key member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Patients and family members are treated as members of the family system rather than in isolation. The family therapist coordinates care among family members and involves them in each step of the treatment process.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conducts individual, group and family therapy in accordance with license requirements, CARF standards and Caron Renaissance Policies.
- Evaluates signs and symptoms of alcohol/ drug abuse and other coexisting conditions.
- Identifies strengths, weaknesses and problem areas in the family system.
- Provides and possesses counseling skills for each individual patient and their families by selecting the counseling theories, apply techniques to assist the patient, group or family in accordance with cultural, gender, lifestyle and age difference. In addition, must be able to interact with the patient, group, and family in an appropriate therapeutic manner.
- Ability to coordinate all services for the patient/family care. Able to recognize the elements of the patient’s crisis, implement an immediate course of action appropriate to the crisis, and utilize all Caron Renaissance’s resources to resolve and treat the patient and family in a timely manner.
- Provides information on alcohol, drugs and other addictions/compulsive behaviors related to bio/psycho/social factors to the patient and family.
- Able to identify needs and problem areas that are beyond the scope of care offered by the Caron Treatment Centers and communicate the referral to all appropriate parties.
- Communicates effectively with patients, family members, referents and co-workers.
- Responds to off hour issues/concerns in a timely and effective manner.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel by plane and other forms of travel as needed.
- Must be able to work extended hours.
Minimum Education / Experience Qualifications:
- Minimum of a master’s degree in a related field.
- Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) or licensed in Florida. LMFT preferred.
- If in recovery, 2 years of continuous sobriety preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- An excellent understanding of the emotional and behavioral effects of addiction.
- An excellent understanding of family systems.
- Ability to use clinical software and other software programs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be “on-call” in the event of an emergency.
