Job Summary

The Federal Regional Depository Librarian (FRDL) serves as head of the Federal Depository Unit (FDU) and serves as Regional Depository Coordinator for Kentucky, ensuring University of Kentucky Libraries’ (UKL) Regional Depository Collection is well-managed, preserved, and accessible. The FRDL is responsible for training and sharing advisory communications with the 18 Kentucky Selective Depository libraries. The FRDL responds to inquiries from the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) so that UKL and the Selective Libraries within the state fulfill the requirements of Title 44 of the U.S. Code. Key responsibilities include instruction, outreach, research consultations, managing resources, and fostering relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) public access, support services, and collection development
  • Serve as head of the Federal Depository Unit and as Regional Depository Coordinator for Kentucky, training and advising 18 Kentucky Selective Depositories. This position is the primary liaison for the FDLP, responding to inquiries and requirements from the U.S. Government Publishing Office
  • Ensure the Federal Regional Depository collection is well-managed, preserved, and accessible (see LRPR)
  • Provide outreach, promotion, and instruction pertaining to the use of federal information sources.
  • Provide reference and research support service to UKL community
  • Manage and supervise staff in FDU including 1 fulltime employee and student employees
  • Lead UKL’s activities as ASERL Centers of Excellence for publications of the Appalachian Regional Commission, Works Progress Administration, Smithsonian Institution and publications from the Office of the Vice President
  • Serve as contact person and lead UKL’s activities for our GPO Preservation Steward collections: Appalachian Regional Commission WPA, United States Congressional Serial Set and Foreign Relations of the United States

As a member of the UKL faculty, this position participates in planning, shared governance, and UK Libraries-wide faculty activities. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure eligible position in the Librarian Title Series (open rank) which requires scholarship, professional development, and service that contributes to the effectiveness of UK Libraries, the university, and the profession as outlined in Administrative Regulation 2:7 (https://regs.uky.edu/administrative-regulation/ar-27).

Your Distribution of Effort (DOE) range: Primary assignment: 70-80%, Service/Prof. development and scholarship 20-30% and is reviewed at minimum annually each year. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The minimum salary for a Librarian IV is $57,000 and for a Librarian III is $62,500. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track eligible position. All career levels are encouraged to apply.
