Overview
Do you have a passion for keeping vehicles safe and on the road? Multnomah County Fleet Services is looking for aFleet Maintenance Technician 1to join our team. Our division is responsible for the entire lifecycle of County assets—purchasing, maintaining, and repairing over 1,000 active vehicles and specialized equipment.
In this role, you will be the backbone of our light-duty operations, performing essential repairs and preventive maintenance on machinery and vehicles under 10,000 lbs. You will work in a collaborative shop environment where your technical skills directly ensure the safety of County staff and the community we serve.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform oil changes, tire rotations, and basic mechanical repairs on company fleet vehicles
- Inspect and top off vehicle fluids (coolant, brake, transmission, etc.)
- Conduct basic vehicle inspections and report findings to senior mechanics or supervisors
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Assist with other entry-level fleet maintenance and repair tasks as needed
Who you are:
- Strong interest in fleet maintenance, vehicle repair and maintenance
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced fleet mechanics
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
- One (1) year experience minimum in automotive service (auto shop, dealership shop)
- One (1) year of experience in customer service
- Must possess a valid Forklift Certification or have the ability to obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to perform essential physical tasks, including balancing, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching overhead, and pushing/pulling.
- Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated experience organizing, cleaning workspace and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Support the inventory process by assisting with cycle counts as required.
- This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must possess a valid drivers license and clean driving record.

Type of Position:This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime.
Location:This position is located in the Yeon Annex, 1620 SE 190th Ave, Portland, OR
Schedule: 9/80 schedule consisting 9-hour days Monday - Friday and one 8-hour Monday every other week to allow for every other Monday off.
Currently, all employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the County cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. We are unable to sponsor work visas, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, or STEM OPT.
Operationally Essential Position: Employees who have been designated as operationally essential (“Essential”) are required to report for duty regardless of facility closure or curtailment of some or all County operations.
