Generator Rental Mechanic

Medford, NY

Pay:$49.06/hour

Key qualifications:

  • Experience in Electric Power Generation, including troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment (generator, ATS, Switchgear), AC and DC, and diesel engine required
  • Electrical troubleshooting skills, breaker testing, paralleling generators, medium/high voltage, transformers, thermal scan (IR Scan) preferred
  • Must be computer proficient to be able to run diagnostic software and prepare service communications
  • Must have strong communication skills and have high self-management
  • Valid and clean driver’s license required (this position drives a service truck)

Responsibilities:

Follow all department policies and procedures to ensure that fleet is ready to rent

  • Check-in and check-out equipment in a timely manner, in accordance with department processes
  • Plan proper maintenance and repair procedures for efficiency
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor on status of fleet and overall conditions
  • Continually improve key processes

Successfully maintain and repair service fleet

  • Troubleshoot problems
  • Efficiently and proactively utilize resources to correct problem
  • Document steps taken to correct problems

Effectively communicate with all stakeholders (customers and Generator team)

  • Represent company in a positive, professional manner
  • Communicate options to correct current problems
  • Advise customer of cost of repair and collect payment as required

Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and walking (including on uneven surfaces)
  • Sitting, body rotation, and forward bending (in both sitting and standing positions)
  • Lifting up to 60 lbs. (machine or team lift for items over 50 lbs.)
  • Carrying up to 50 lbs. for short distances
  • Push/pull tasks requiring up to 75 lbs. of force
  • Climbing stairs and ladders (including non-standard access points)
  • Crawling, kneeling (low work), and working in awkward/tight positions
  • Strong grip strength (up to 80 lbs. with both hands; up to 30 lbs. with one hand)
  • Hand coordination and overhead/extended reaching
  • Operating equipment, machinery, foot pedals, and hand tools
  • Outdoor work as required (exposure to weather and varying environments)
  • Wearing up to 20 lbs. of PPE, including flame-resistant clothing, welding helmets/shields, and ANSI-rated protective footwear as required
