Generator Service Handyperson – Parts Room

Bronx, NY

Pay: $44.09/hour

Key qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a repair shop environment or completion of mechanical trade school required, (preference for experience with electrical equipment: generator, ATS, switchgear, etc.)
  • Ability to be extremely organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be computer proficient to be able to run diagnostic software and prepare service communications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Familiarity with generators and / or construction equipment a plus
  • Ability to operate a forklift and various shop equipment
  • Clean & valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities:

Successfully provide service which solves customers’ product support requirements with supervision.

  • Properly select and use basic hand tools as well as special tooling identified in service literature
  • Safely and properly use lifting devices such as chain slings, straps, and cranes
  • Demonstrate competence in assisting EPG technicians
  • Effectively and efficiently repair/rebuild components with supervision
  • Document steps taken to correct problems daily on service reports

Maximize the efficient use of service and repair procedures to provide fast, accurate service and minimize unnecessary expense with supervision.

  • Receive and execute work instructions from supervisor
  • Plan and execute maintenance and minor repairs
  • Effectively communicate status of work with supervisor
  • Properly use service and parts literature to write a correct parts list and research technical information including using the SIS computer system
  • Provide service report upon completion of job or task

Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing and walking (including on uneven surfaces)
  • Sitting, body rotation, and forward bending (in both sitting and standing positions)
  • Lifting up to 60 lbs. (machine or team lift for items over 50 lbs.)
  • Carrying up to 50 lbs. for short distances
  • Push/pull tasks requiring up to 75 lbs. of force
  • Climbing stairs and ladders (including non-standard access points)
  • Crawling, kneeling (low work), and working in awkward/tight positions
  • Strong grip strength (up to 80 lbs. with both hands; up to 30 lbs. with one hand)
  • Hand coordination and overhead/extended reaching
  • Operating equipment, machinery, foot pedals, and hand tools
  • Outdoor work as required (exposure to weather and varying environments)
  • Wearing up to 20 lbs. of PPE, including flame-resistant clothing, welding helmets/shields, and ANSI-rated protective footwear as required
