
Graduate Assistant - Occupational Therapy and Nursing
JOB SUMMARY- The Graduate Assistant (GA) is a shared position within the College of Health Sciences. The GA is responsible to provide support to Chair, Faculty, Staff and Students within the departments. This includes assisting at recruitment events, internal and external meetings, and supporting student activities as appropriate. The GA will be responsible for communication between external accrediting bodies, state and local entities and other stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Create a welcoming environment and ensure equipment is readily available to allow students to practice skills and lab techniques providing guidance as appropriate.
2. Assist faculty/lab staff with the set-up and tear down of classroom or lab activities Gather materials or provide access to instructional supplies for adjunct instructors as needed.
3. Assist with orientation of Adjunct faculty and students as needed and appropriate.
4. Act as a resource to students in completing compliance documents, ordering electronic resources and assist with other program aspects as needed.
5. Assist in department - sponsored events such as Packapooloza, Health Science Days, speakers, guest lecturers. Provide support to the faculty for Admissions events.
6. Collaborate with other departments to promote program and student activities.
7. Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.
Other duties include:
· Check and respond to emails promptly.
· Send correspondence as needed.
· Complete licensure Verification letters as appropriate.
· File charts and/or create charts as needed.
· Review departmental webpage monthly on Alvernia.edu for needed updates.
· Assist with Advisory Board meetings (take notes and minutes)
· Assist with marketing events including Zoom sessions or contact prospective students- both undergraduate and graduate.
· Organize and create a themed basket for the Mission and Ministry basket raffle
· Assist with the development of Marketing materials to promote the programs
· Meet with students who need one-on-one attention and practice as needed
· Scan files and make copies of files as needed
· Ensure all equipment is in good working order.
· Send out equipment for repair as directed.
· Assist with securing documentation as appropriate for accrediting and approving bodies.
· Correspond with stakeholders to share program events and outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
1. Current Graduate level student enrolled in a Health Science major with an earned Bachelors degree.
2. Strong organizational and communication (written and oral) skills.
3. Ability to collaborate with other departments and problem solve as needed.
3. Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
4. Strong computer and technology skills
5. Ability to accept feedback and demonstrate professional growth
PHYSICAL & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects throughout the workday and work week.
2. The ability to work independently but also the ability to work well with others.
3. The ability to be on campus when needed or asked.
4. Access to internet off campus.
