As an esports head coach, you will train members of the Overwatch team on current techniques and strategies. You will recruit talented team members who fit the program and align with the university’s values, while promoting retention strategies that help them graduate in four years and pursue rewarding careers. Additionally, you will track the academic progress of players, work with the athletics administration to secure corporate sponsorships for the program, and help expand the team’s presence throughout the university through collaborations with student clubs, team demonstrations, and events.

In this role, you will schedule and lead well-organized practice sessions and scrimmages, plan all aspects of team travel, and collaborate with other coaches to manage arenas, equipment, and the team’s Twitch channel. Responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, engagement in successful community relations to foster a positive opinion of SCAD esports, and assistance with scheduling competitions against recognized and respected colleges and universities. You will also work to establish a positive reputation of the program at the city, state, and national levels; promote a positive atmosphere within the SCAD athletics department; and complete necessary paperwork.

The ideal candidate has proven leadership skills and strong communication abilities, allowing them to build and maintain effective relationships within a team-focused environment. They also demonstrate a commitment to student growth.

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one year of competitive esports experience involving Overwatch
  • Experience teaching or coaching, fundraising in a college environment, and managing budgets
  • Working knowledge of collegiate esports landscape (e.g., governing bodies, CLOL, national tournaments, competition guidelines, and streaming platforms)

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
