Home Repair Program Specialist VISTA

For one year, get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.
AmeriCorps VISTA members are Volunteers in Service to America who perform indirect service to build capacity and sustainable solutions.

What will you do?

The Home Repair Program Specialist VISTA member will create, document, and implement plans for a Community Critical Repair Initiative. This role will focus on developing sustainable infrastructure by forming local Critical Repair Committees in each of the four service areas. These committees will help identify and address the urgent home repair needs of low-income residents, enabling them to have safer and more stable housing. Each plan will be well documented and evaluated to ensure sustainability beyond the year of service.

* Build and support Critical Repair Committees in targeted communities.
* Engage with local organizations, volunteers, and stakeholders to assess community needs and resources.
* Develop systems and training for committee members to identify and prioritize critical repair projects.
* Assist in outreach efforts to connect homeowners with services and support.

This position will focus on home repair and homeowner services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Activities and attractions: Christiansburg is located in the New River Valley of Southwest Virginia, a region known for its scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, and strong college town energy. Nestled in the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains, the area offers a balance of small town charm, natural landscapes, and access to major educational and cultural institutions.
Unique projects: Continuing the development of our existing repair program across our seven areas. We have a model for our first, which is called FISH (Floyd Initiative for Safe Housing), which is comprised of government, businesses, faith, educators, and citizens who address housing needs, primarily repair, to their community under the HFHNRV umbrella. They raise funds, volunteers, and coordinate work.


When will you serve?

Start dates are flexible and based on this location’s availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens or is a person residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status. Applicants must be at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
