SALARY INFORMATION: $85.00 Hourly / Pay Grade Q / Job Code HCP131
Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision, diagnosis, treats, prevents, and controls disorders of the teeth and mouth including gums and related oral structures of patients. Performs diagnostic services to include but not limited to exams and X-Rays; treatment such as cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns, etc. May treat diseases of nerve, pulp and other dental tissues affecting vitality of teeth. Emphasizes prevention and early detection of oral diseases by teaching patients the importance of proper oral care at home and periodic visits to the dentist. May evaluate dental health needs of public health clients and recommend program improvements. Provide assessment, treatment and management of dental problems associated with Ryan White patient population. Participates in research activities related to dental issues of high risks populations. Assist with grant activities as assigned by the Oral Health Manager. • Greet patients and determine purpose of visit • Examine patient and determine necessary treatment according to clinical findings and perceived chances of success. Discusses proposed treatment according to clinical findings and perceived chances of success • Provide provisional diagnosis, when necessary, for emergency and routine referrals and documents in patient’s dental record according to established guidelines • Document and review medical history and physical status of patients. • Complete dental assessments according to accepted practices and within established timeframes. • Assures radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality are taken according to accepted methods of radiation protection. Correctly interprets radiographs. • Root canals, restorative procedures. • Schedule routine dental treatments and recall examinations within established timeframes • Initiates and completes treatment within established timeframes. • When necessary, provides prophylaxis, fluoride treatments and dental sealants • Train dental staff on proper infection control procedures and monitors their ongoing compliance • Follow universal precautions when dealing with patients. • Reports and documents all hazardous or infectious exposures according to established guidelines. • Maintain accurate dental record and completes required reports of patient treatment • Instructs patients in personal oral hygiene, the need for periodic dental examinations, the benefits of fluorides and dental sealants and the relationship of diet to tooth decay. • Creates and maintains a high performance of environment characterized by positive leadership and a strong team orientation. • Communicates with staff on progress toward defined goals • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related seminars and conferences. Applies pertinent knowledge to performance of other responsibilities. • Make clinical decisions in the absence of the Dental Supervisor. • Assist with inventory of supplies and creating list of supplies needed for the clinics. • Assist the Dental Supervisor by creating documents to monitor efficiency in areas of the clinic when needed. • May supervise paraprofessional staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate or professional degree in dentistry from an accredited College or University AND One year of experience AND current Georgia license to practice dentistry.
