HR Generalist
Job Summary: The Human Resources Generalist plans, implements, and administers policies relating to all phases of human resource activities (including recruitment and selection, policy/practices, discipline, personnel issues, compensation, training and development, performance management, health and safety, benefits, and legal compliance) by performing the following duties. Essential Functions:
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
- Keeps records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
- Recruits, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
- Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.
- Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.
- Governs benefit programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence/FMLA, and employee assistance.
- Trains management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
- Responds to inquiries regarding company policies, procedures, and programs.
- Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
- Manages and tracks employee uniform program.
- Ability to navigate a union environment
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework.
- Searches out new tasks and expands their ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision.
- Punctuality and attendance.
- Willingness and cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism.
- Follow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
- Follow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE.
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and /or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to five years related experience and/or training.
- Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
- Experience in a union environment
- Knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
