The HRIS Data Governance Analyst is responsible for the integrity, consistency and accuracy of HR data across enterprise systems, with primary focus on Workday HCM. This role supports the HR Technology Director with data governance policy development, data quality auditing and the enforcement of data standards that enable reliable people analytics and HR reporting. The Analyst partners closely with HR Operations, People Analytics and IT to identify data gaps, resolve discrepancies and build scalable governance frameworks.
Core Responsibilities
Data Governance Policy and Standards
- Support the HR Technology Director with the development, documentation and maintenance of HR data governance policies, standards and procedures across Workday HCM.
- Assist in the definition and enforcement of data entry standards, field definitions and coding conventions.
- Define data ownership, data definitions, and control documentation for HR data.
- Review and monitor data quality, completeness, and consistency across Workday modules against established guidelines.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data governance questions from HR teams and system users.
- Monitor, identify, and resolve data inconsistencies and transactional errors impacting workforce information
- Establish and manage a data dictionary for all core HR data elements.
Data Quality and Auditing
- Execute regular data quality audits across Workday HCM to identify errors, inconsistencies and gaps.
- Build and run audit reports to monitor data completeness, accuracy and timeliness
- Partner with HR Operations, Shared Services, and other key stakeholders (Data Owners, Payroll, Finance) to resolve data integrity issues.
- Reconcile Workday outputs with downstream systems
- Track and report data quality metrics to the Director, HR Technology on a recurring cadence.
System Stewardship and Process Improvement
- Serve as a functional subject matter expert for Workday HCM Core data structures, including Organizations, Job Profiles, Positions and Worker data.
- Collaborate with HR Technology and IT on system configuration changes that impact data governance.
- Partner with various teams to identify recurring data errors and recommend process or system changes to prevent them upstream.
- Review data retention and purge processes and procedures to report compliance
- Support Workday updates and releases by assessing data governance impacts.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with People Analytics to ensure governed data feeds are accurate and reliable for dashboards and reporting.
- Support HR leaders and HRBPs with data-related inquiries and ensure timely resolution.
- Train HR users on data standards, entry expectations and governance protocols.
- Participate in HR technology projects as the data governance voice.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Business Administration or a related field.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in HRIS, HR data management or a related function.
- Hands-on Workday HCM experience required, with demonstrated knowledge of Core HCM data structures.
- Experience designing and executing data audits and building data governance documentation.
- Exposure to HR Shared Services or HR Operations environments preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical skills with a high attention to data accuracy and detail.
- Ability to translate technical data issues into clear, actionable guidance for HR users.
- Proficiency in Workday reporting, including building ad hoc and scheduled audit reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices preferred.
