Job Summary

Somerset Community College is accepting applications for an Instructor/Program Coordinator - Medical Assisting Program on the Laurel Campus.

Job Duties:

Instructional Responsibilities:
• Teach medical assisting courses across clinical and administrative content areas;

• Evaluate student learning and maintain accurate academic records;

• Demonstrate effective teaching strategies appropriate to student level and program outcomes;

• Supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings;


Program Coordinator and other job duties:
• Coordinate clinical education experiences, including site placement, communication, and evaluation;

• Maintain relationships with clinical partners and ensure quality clinical learning environments;

• Assist with program scheduling, accreditation support, and regulatory compliance;

• Participate in program assessment, outcomes tracking, and continuous improvement processes;

• Contribute to development and revision of curriculum, policies, and procedures;

• Serve on program, division, and college committees;

• Participate in student advising and recruitment activities;

• Engage in professional development to maintain current knowledge of medical assisting practice;

• Support program initiatives and community engagement efforts;

• May oversee accreditation related activities;

• Participate in education leadership activities;

• Participate in internal service activities (serve on college and systemwide committees and participate in meetings;

• Participate in external service (activities performed in the community);

• Complete annual performance reviews for assigned faculty;

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate's degree (AAS or AS) in Medical Assisting or closely related field from an accredited university or college;
• Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a certified Medical Assistant.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional education (e.g., Bachelor's degree) in related field;
• Experience in a supervisory, lead, or training role within a medical assisting setting;
• Previous teaching, clinical instruction, or student supervision experience;
• Experience with curriculum development, program assessment, or accreditation processes;
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program, preferably with familiarity of program structure and outcomes;
• Preference will be given to candidates credentialed as CMA (AAMA) or RMA (AMT).
