The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a nationally accredited health care facility that offers medical health, mental health, dental services, health promotion and education, and academic testing services to the students of Portland State University. The center consists of over 120 clinical and administrative staff and operates Monday through Thursday 8:30am-5:30pm and Friday 9am-5pm. There are currently 20,000 students eligible to use our services. The department of Health Services provides comprehensive primary and urgent care, in addition to dietetic counseling and acupuncture services. Health Services provides medical care to approximately 100 patients per day during the normal academic term. Health Services also provides emergency response to the PSU campus.Position Summary
The Intermittent RN will be scheduled on an as-needed basis approximately 1 day per month.
The purpose of the Registered Nurse 2 (RN2) role is to direct daily nursing operations and serve as a resource, in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager, by designating daily assignments for other nursing staff, medical assistants, & student assistants. In addition, this role will direct operational flow of patients coming into Health Services and depending on the circumstance, Counseling Services.
The role will assist the Health Services Director and Clinical Nurse Manager in research, development, and writing of nursing standing orders, nursing policy, and implementing nursing process improvements according to operational needs. The role will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding inconsistencies in the flow of operations, patient care concerns, and give feedback regarding performance (good or bad) of other nurses, medical assistants, and student assistants.
In addition to the above, the RN2 will provide direct and indirect nursing care to Portland State University students at the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC). The RN2 facilitates and directs opportunities for staff development (both internal departments and external departments) and develops educational experiences that support student health needs. The RN2 contacts local and state health resources regarding community health concerns to seek recommendations and follow guidelines according to developing health situations. This position will direct nursing/medical assistant/student assistant patient care activities to support operational needs in the absence of the Director and Clinical Nurse Manager of Health Services.Minimum Qualifications from Classification Possession of a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse License at the time of appointment.Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position-2 years or more experience working as an RN.
-Current BLS/CPR certification at the time of appointment.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a university health center
- Trained as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to perform administrative tasks including coordinating the SHAC employee health program, working with directors/staff to maintain compliance of staff immunizations
- Experience using Excel or Google Sheets
- Ability to multi-task in a team-oriented environment
