The two-semester practicum provides students a supervised clinical experience in an accredited Histology laboratory where the student will learn the hands-on skills to become competent to take on an entry-level histology position after graduation
The goals are directly related to the performance objectives. Upon completion of this course, the student will:
1. Execute core histology laboratory procedures.
2. Validate entry-level technical competencies.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in obtaining desired results with special staining techniques.
4. Independently manage clinical work assignments.
5. Respect the rights of patients, fellow students and instructors.
The affiliate site provides a structured clinical immersion that bridges the gap between classroom theory and professional practice. By integrating cognitive and psychomotor assessments, the training ensures students master the underlying principles (theory) while maintaining the manual dexterity required to produce high-volume, diagnostic-quality clinical slides.
Student will shadow the clinical liaison (appointed by the affiliate site) who will demonstrate the required learning objectives and then the student will demonstrate those hands-on skills to the clinical liaison for evaluation. The student's competency-based performance will be evaluated by the clinical liaison (appointed by the affiliate site) using evaluations provided by UND. The student will learn the hands-on skills to become competent to take on an entry-level histology position after graduation.
