Journeyman ElectricianUIW MissionPosition SummaryThe Journeyman Electrician position is responsible for providing journeyman level skills and expertise in the installation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, remodeling, repair, servicing, and operation of the University's electrical systems from 120 volts up to 480 volts. The position assembles, installs, and repairs circuitry, switchgear, distribution systems, and all related components, while planning layout and installs wiring for electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. The Journeyman Electrician is part of Facilities Management Department and reports to Master Electrician Supervisor.Essential FunctionsJob DutiesKnowledge Skills and Abilities• Proficiency with the National Electrical Code and local codes.• Strong proficiency in the general practices of commercial/industrial electrical trade and safety and standard diagnostic and measuring electrical tools and devices.• Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.• Good knowledge of generators, transformers and switch gear.• Comprehensive knowledge and experience of lock-out/tag-out program with regards to OSHA 29 CFR 19190.147 control of hazardous equipment.• Ability to consistently follow written and/or oral instructions.• Ability to effectively learn and use electronic work order system.• Good verbal and written communication skills.• Strong customer service skills.• Ability to work in a team environment.• Ability to work independently and in group setting.• Ability to effectively operate a forklift, boom lift, and scissor lift.• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.• Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.Required EducationHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent.Required Work ExperienceOne (1) year of skilled/journeyman-level commercial/industrial electrical experience since gaining the Journeyman License.Preferred Qualifications• Two (2) years of skilled/journeyman-level commercial/industrial electrical experience since gaining the Journeyman License.• Technical trade school certification in electrical field.Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations• Current Journeyman Electrician License issued by the State of Texas. This license must be current at the time of hire and maintained throughout the period of employment.• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.Work HoursMonday trough Friday 8 am to 5 pm with flexibility based on departmental needs. However, hours may be adjusted to respond to emergency calls, shift work, overtime, and other university needs.Physical Demands• Ability and willingness to utilize/wear Personal Protective Equipment.• Exposure to variable Texas weather conditions indoor/outdoor and/or physical hazards common to a physical plant and construction environment such as elevated and confined spaces.
