Description

The Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute at Princeton University is seeking a skilled Lab Bioreactor Manager, at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist, to join the Avalos Lab focused on microbial production of biofuels, chemicals, food, materials, and other products for renewable energy and sustainable biomanufacturing. This includes working with unique reactor designs and operation protocols for light-controlled microbial cultivations, as well as auxiliary equipment linked to bioreactor operations.

Responsibilities

- Maintaining proper operation of all bioreactors in the lab and auxiliary equipment associated with them (such as computers, flow cytometers, samplers, probes, etc.).

- Ensuring bioreactors and auxiliary equipment are properly maintained and up to date with service contracts, as well as inhouse and professional preventive maintenance services.

- Training students and postdocs on the proper use of bioreactors and auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and proper use of the equipment.

- Managing the user schedule for bioreactors and auxiliary equipment.

- Occasionally, working closely with students and postdocs on their research projects as a collaborator.

- Communicating effectively with vendors, suppliers, and professional repair technicians of bioreactors and auxiliary equipment to ensure lab capabilities are maintained or expanded.

- Participating in research is a plus.

The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding.


Qualifications

- A PhD degree in a relevant science or engineering, such as chemical/biological engineering, biology (synthetic, systems, molecular, cellular, microbial, marine), bioengineering, biochemistry, chemistry, or similar.

- Experience in bioreactor operation and maintenance.

- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.

- Strong organizational skills.

- Interest in participating in research is a plus.
