The University of Pittsburgh Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the preparation, maintenance, and organization of lab materials and equipment for undergraduate biology lab courses.
Job Summary
Performs general laboratory tasks, maintains inventory and equipment and orders supplies and parts, performs quality control testing, and assists other staff.
Essential Functions
Prepares media, buffers, reagents, and sterile supplies for instructional lab use. Assists with setup, cleaning, sterilization, and restocking of laboratory materials. Operates, cleans, and calibrates equipment such as autoclaves, pipettes, centrifuges, and incubators. Maintains laboratory inventory and assists in receiving, unpacking, and organizing supplies.
Supports troubleshooting of lab setups and protocols under direction of lead technician. Disposes of waste and biohazard in compliance with waste disposal guidelines. Supports other lab personnel as needed during peak prep times or emergencies.
Physical Effort
Incumbent must be able to stand for extended periods of time; Incumbent must be able to ambulate across building complex; Staff member must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Hiring Range: $16.50 to $20.63 per hour
