The Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is a world-renowned center for excellence in transplantation research and clinical care.

We are seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to join Dr. Sacirbegovic and his team. The applicant should be a highly motivated, highly organized person who can work both independently and as part of a team. The Research Technician will partner with the laboratory principal investigator and other lab members to coordinate and complete cellular and molecular immunological studies. The successful candidate will have laboratory skills and experience in small animal handling, sterile cell culture techniques and molecular skills.


Job Summary

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.


Essential Functions

Duties will involve collecting and recording data, preparing common reagents and gross surgical dissections. The individual will also be directly responsible for maintenance of several mouse colonies through coordinating mouse breeding, screening, record keeping, transferring/shipping mice and providing genotyping support to outside organizations.


Physical Effort

This position requires physical stamina to stand for extended periods while conducting meticulous laboratory experiments. The incumbent must be capable of frequent walking to transport specimens and reagents between various core facilities and the laboratories of internal and external collaborators. While the role does not involve heavy lifting, it requires high manual dexterity and the precise handling of delicate laboratory instrumentation.
