Laboratory Research Technician III

The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Neurology, would like to hire a lab technician III (grade 4). The applicant must have extensive experience in neurodegenerative disease research, and has demonstrated skills in assessing neurofunctional deficits in rodents, brain pathological changes.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions
• The Research Technician, functions as a research technician staff, will be responsible for performing experiments, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of research results at local and national meetings. The specific skills required include assessing neurological function deficits in rodent models, pathological quantification vis confocal imaging and MRI, surgical procedures, etc.
• Lead research projects by developing and revising protocols. Updating and maintaining the related protocols.
• Provide training for new lab members
• Other research duties include manuscript writing and submission, graph/chart preparation.
Require time management skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively plan and organize work are essential. Must be able to foster a positive work environment and be patient and accepting of other cultures
Physical Effort
Must be able to get around a university setting. Could stand for long periods of time.
