Job Summary
The laboratory of Nicolas Grillet is recruiting a laboratory technician to work on the molecular genetics of age-related hearing loss (https://www.grilletlab.com/). The Grillet lab has generated a mouse model carrying a polymorphism identified in Genome Wide Association Studies that increases the risk of age-related hearing loss in humans. The project consists of determining whether this polymorphism is causal by analyzing the potential association with age-related hearing loss and whether it sensitizes hearing to noise-induced damage.
The Grillet lab has expertise in molecular and cellular aspects of hair cell function, fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, mouse genetics, and electrophysiology (Wang et al., 2024, Nature Communications; Miller et al., 2024, Nature Communications).
The candidate will perform hearing tests (auditory brainstem recordings and distortion products of otoacoustic emissions), noise exposure assessments, dissection, histology, immunostaining, scanning electron microscopy, quantification, molecular cloning, biochemistry assays, and data analysis. Previous experience in molecular biology and fluorescence microscopy is required.
The candidate will be trained and mentored by Dr. Grillet.
We are expecting high motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of the team.
To apply, please include a CV and a cover letter describing your previous work and career goals, your proposed starting date, and the contact information of at least two references at ngrillet@uky.edu.
