Physical Requirements

Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs with possible heavier lifting on rare occasions. Periods of lengthy sitting and/or being very mobile can be expected.



Shift

Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, some Saturdays, and some holidays (40.0 hours/week).



Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) develops and applies state-of-the-art diagnostic methodology to improve animal health and marketability, to protect the public health and to assist in the preservation of the human-animal bond through the principles of One Health. This customer service-oriented position in the Diagnostic Services Department is a vital member of the team and is responsible for obtaining information to facilitate services and provide details to clients to help satisfy their questions and concerns. Responsibilities include: Reconciling paperwork with specimen(s), uniquely identifying each accession and related specimens, processing and routing all specimens to lab sections, entering case data into LIMS system and proofing those entries. All lab sections are dependent on the efficiency of this department. Diagnostic Services also offers account and financial support to the Business Office.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Excellent customer & communication skills, attention to details, trustworthiness, work independently, multitask, efficient, dependable, initiative & basic cash handling skills.

This position is located at the Coldstream Research Campus off Newtown Pike (great location and free parking).

Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science plus two or more years veterinary technician, or assistant, customer service, and/or animal laboratory technician preferred.
