Physical Requirements
Repetitive motion, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time. Regular exposure to animal tissue and blood borne pathogens. Work with large animals (Cattle, sheep and swine). Occasional work in inclement weather conditions. Some travel to the C. Oran Little Research Center required.
Shift
Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm, and occasional evenings/weekend hours.
Job Summary
The Department of Animal and Food Sciences in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join the Animal, Molecular and Cellular Physiology (AMCP) group. The AMCP group is a close-knit team of innovative researchers united by a shared methodological and philosophical approach to scientific discovery and graduate training. Together, the group investigates fundamental mechanisms underlying reproductive, gastrointestinal, metabolic, and immune physiology across three major livestock species: sheep, cattle, and swine.
About the Role
In this dynamic, hands-on role, you’ll be involved in supporting cutting-edge research—engaging in a diverse mix of laboratory science, animal studies, and data-driven discovery. From collecting and processing biological samples to performing laboratory analyses that help answer fundamental questions in animal physiology you’ll apply a wide range of techniques, including molecular biology methods, histological sectioning, staining and imaging, chemical and nutrition-related analyses, and cell culture. Your work will directly support innovative research through large-animal tissue and cell collection, assistance with procedures, and meticulous sample preparation and preservation.You’ll play a vital role in maintaining a high-performing research environment—overseeing laboratory organization, inventory management, safety compliance, and data analysis. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical skills, contribute meaningfully to impactful science, and be an essential member of a collaborative, fast-paced research team.
