Lead Technical Writer
TerraPower is seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer. The candidate is expected to be capable of understanding then communicating technical material to technical and non-technical audiences. The candidate will have broad demonstrated experience writing documents such as training manuals, technical papers, white papers, processes and procedures.
This role will write internal process documentation (conceptual and procedural) describing the functionality of internal operational tools, systems, and processes; generate internal-user training content and self-service training materials; develop and disseminate technical information through intra-organizational channels; and work with subject-matter experts to improve the company's processes.
Additionally, as Lead, this role will provide editorial oversight and technical writing guidance to other Technical Writers matrixed within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Author, develop, and maintain Standard Operating Documents (SODs) within the organizations formal document hierarchy in accordance with governing procedures and applicable quality program requirements.
- Develop and disseminate technical information through organizational channels.
- Prepare high-level technical communications, presentations, and white papers as required.
- Serve as the editorial quality gate for documents produced within the authoring group, performing editorial review for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and conformance to style and template standards.
- Provide technical writing guidance, mentorship, and instruction to other Technical Writers matrixed within the organization.
- Establish and maintain style governance, structured templates, and authoring standards for the groups document portfolio.
- Participate in document review workflows, including technical review, comment resolution, and QA verification activities.
- Identify and recommend improvements to authoring processes, document templates, and workflow efficiency.
- Stay current in technical communication practices, tools, and technologies.
- Support the development and refinement of the organizations document governance framework.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum education : A bachelor's degree in engineering, technical communication, writing, or English, OR a bachelor's degree in a field of scientific research with demonstrated research writing skills.
- Minimum experience : 6 years' experience in technical and/or research writing in organizations adhering with a quality assurance program.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical material into clear, audience-appropriate content for nontechnical readers.
- Demonstrated experience developing or maintaining content within a formal document hierarchy, numbering system, or configuration-managed environment.
- Demonstrated experience performing editorial review of peer-authored technical documents and providing technical writing guidance or mentorship to junior writers or cross-functional contributors.
- Demonstrated experience developing training materials, user guides, or self-service reference content for internal tools and systems.
- Demonstrated experience writing high-level technical communications, presentations, and white papers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office standard suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Project.
- Demonstrated experience working with Records Management Systems.
- Familiarity with structured templates, style governance, and content management or authoring platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Confluence, or similar).
- Demonstrated aptitude to learn new technologies, the curiosity to figure out how things work, and a passion for improving the experience of end-users.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal direction to solve challenging problems, communicate transparently, and foster collaborative working relationships.
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Salary Range Level 10: $117,922 - $176,833
* We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individuals qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
