Description

The Department of Anthropology at Princeton University is accepting applications for a lecturer position in sociocultural anthropology for the 2026-2027 academic year, with an expected start date of September 1, 2026. Work at the intersection of community-engaged research, health care, and public policy is of great interest. Appointment duty time will depend upon departmental need and student enrollments, but responsibilities are expected to include teaching two courses and working as a teaching assistant for a third course, as well as advancing the department’s community-engaged research, service, and teaching initiatives. Additionally, the lecturer would mentor undergraduate students working on their senior theses. An advanced degree in anthropology is required, and prior teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred. Princeton is interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Applications should include a cover letter outlining the candidate’s academic trajectory, research, and teaching experience, a curriculum vitae, two syllabi outlines (each including a course abstract and reading list for 12 weeks): one for an applied anthropology course with a community-engaged research component and one for a thematic course in the candidate’s field of expertise, and contact information for two references. No letters of recommendation are required at this time.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

This position is subject to the University’s background check policy. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Term positions of one year or less are not eligible for sponsorship of an H-1B visa requiring consular processing.
