Job Responsibilities

Under broad supervision, conducts mental health and substance use assessments of people living with HIV, with an emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification. Develops treatment plans for various mental health conditions. Conducts therapy on an individual basis as well as in group settings to promote optimum mental health. Supports individuals with the management of addiction and substance use; family, parenting, marital challenges; suicide risk; stress management; difficulties with self-esteem; and concerns associated with aging, health, and chronic disease management. This individual will work with patients in an infectious disease clinical setting and serve as a member of the interdisciplinary medical team.

  • Conducts mental health assessments, develop treatment plans, and conduct therapy for Ryan White clients
  • Acts as client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve crisis
  • Counsels clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life
  • Monitors, evaluates, and records client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan
  • Organizes support groups or counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting the client
  • Performs clinical assessments of the behavioral health needs of consumers presenting for services
  • Provides case management services related to identified treatment needs
  • Provides training to direct care staff in implementing behavior modification techniques and treatment plans
  • Refers client or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement or education
  • Designs behavioral or therapeutic interventions for intractable or difficult to manage clients
  • Determines the necessity for commitment in accordance with accepted standards of clinical practice
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments/evaluations to develop comprehensive case/service plans
  • Provides consultation and expertise in interdisciplinary meetings to establish holistic care plans for high acuity clients

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in social work and counseling from an accredited college or university and licensure in the area of assignment and two (2) years of experience at the lower level Social Worker, Licensed 2 (HCP051) or position equivalent; or Master's degree in social work and counseling from an accredited college or university and licensure in the area of assignment and two (2) years of related post-license experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- Experience working with individuals living with HIV/AIDS
- Experience with individuals who identify as gender non-conforming
