Job Description
Supervises and ensures the complete maintenance of UTA's Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) fleet including repairs, preventive maintenance, cleaning, and servicing. Supervises LRV maintenance employees and coordinates work activities. Ensures that vehicles are scheduled for maintenance in a timely manner and that the tasks are completed as efficiently and effectively as possible to avoid disruption of service to customers. Ensures that staff hired, transferred, or promoted into TRAX maintenance are qualified and trained in proper methods and that they perform their assigned responsibilities in a safe, acceptable manner. Trains and updates assigned staff on technological changes to equipment to ensure the continued soundness of UTA's LRVs.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
- Five years previous work experience in the area of mechanical/electrical/electronic repair (must be at Journeyist or Class A level of competency), with advanced electrical and electronics applications.
- One year of job-related supervisory (or lead) work experience with demonstrated progressive competence in supervising mechanics/technicians in all areas of mechanical/electrical/ electronic repairs.
- High School diploma, plus two years of completed undergraduate college course work or vocational training in the electrical/mechanical field.
- Must have a valid Utah Driver’s License and be a safe driver with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years. Cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
- Candidates must pass a limited LRV operations qualification exam for the safe operations of train movements in the yard/shop.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain safety required training and expected certifications: limited LRV, forklift, roadway protection, blue flag protection, etc.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain DOT Medical Card.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Journeyist-level knowledge and understanding of maintenance and repair techniques, including assisting the work of others in a lead capacity.
- Knowledge of advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory and principles.
- Candidates must be able to complete and administer the comprehensive technical exams administered for the LRV Electromechanic training program.
- Must have a thorough understanding and knowledge of:
- Principles of supervision, training, motivation, coaching, and counseling.
- Diagnosis, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of equipment and facilities.
- Preventive maintenance practices.
- Maintenance tools and equipment including vehicles, machinery, and electrical
- Skilled at mechanical/electrical repairs with advanced electrical and electronics applications
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly and over 51 lbs occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawl and lay on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely work at heights above 16 feet, and constantly aware of surroundings.

Pay Rate: $82,400.00 to $98,900.00 depending on experience
