Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

Job Description:
Support U.S. Army sensor testing facilities located at Fort A.P. Hill (Drop Zone) responsible for upkeep and inventory of the equipment at that location. Equipment includes Army wheeled and tracked vehicles, trucks and trailers, construction/agricultural equipment, drones, data collection equipment, and military/commercial generators. Support equipment testing (ex. as operator) and transport equipment and other items for test and repair between Fort A.P. Hill and Fort Belvoir and other Army test ranges and repair shops.
Essential Job Duties:
- Support testing by way of equipment operation, logistics, and data collection.
- Assist with maintenance of gasoline and diesel machinery and equipment, specification of various parts and equipment, assembly of various equipment, operation of equipment for test, training, general facilities maintenance, and demonstrations.
- Maintain the inventory of equipment and spare parts and cleanliness in office, shop and storage areas.
- Perform routine range maintenance and repair as needed with tractors, bush hogs, etc.
- Prepare turn-in and transfer documentation, and coordinate turn-in or transfer actions of excess equipment.
- Provide field testing support during data collections, including operation or construction of test targets and fixtures.
- Transport test equipment and Government property as required within Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, and to/from Fort Belvoir, Virginia and other locations.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Experience and Expertise Required:
- Heavy Equipment Operation to include Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
- Unit level maintenance
- Management, analytical, problem solving, strategic planning
- Maintain inventory of government equipment
- Able to work within a team environment
- Ability to learn and adapt new skills
- Able to work outdoors for much of the workday
- Government vehicle and heavy equipment licenses. Lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds solo and more with equipment/team support is required.
- Prior operator skills of heavy equipment and training are preferred.
