Job DescriptionPURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Maintenance Technician III is a senior-level position responsible for performing skilled building maintenance services, repairs, and renovation tasks across campus buildings. This role requires technical expertise in carpentry, or general building maintenance. This position will work independently and as part of a team to ensure the safety, functionality, and appearance of the college campus while providing mentorship to junior staff.
This role works collaboratively across LSC campuses on special projects, recommend process improvement, and implement best practices in standard operating procedures (SOPs) across functional units.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs complex troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on campus facilities, equipment, and systems, sometimes including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical components
- Leads or assists in renovation projects, including remodeling, painting, flooring, and structural repairs
- Responds to maintenance requests and emergency calls efficiently to minimize downtime and disruptions
- Conducts inspections and routine maintenance of building systems to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards
- Performs plumbing repairs, including leaks, clogged drains, and fixture replacements
- Assists in the maintenance of campus grounds, including irrigation systems, sidewalks, and outdoor lighting
- Operates and maintains tools, equipment, and machinery required for maintenance tasks
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment performance
- Mentors and provides guidance to junior maintenance staff and student workers
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, building codes, and college policies
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Advanced knowledge of carpentry, or mechanical systems
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook
- Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainability practices preferred
- Familiarity with CMMS systems preferred
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders
- Comfortable working at heights of up to 50 feet, including on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated platforms.
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects and/or equipment.
- An ability to express or exchange ideas verbally, written, and convey detailed instructions accurately and clearly.
- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
- Proficient in tasks that involve the use of hands and fingers, such as gripping, manipulating tools, or operating equipment
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Must be capable of performing labor-intensive work associated with maintenance
- Must be capable of safely operating powered equipment such as: Electrical tools and equipment, voltage meters, testing equipment, saws drills, and be able to determine which equipment to use for a particular purpose
- May regularly travel to different LSC locations
- May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
- May need to work weekends and untraditional hours if necessary
- This position is classified as an essential employee, which means the individual may be required to report to work during college closures or emergencies to support recovery and reopening efforts
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED and at least 5 years of experience
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be eligible for insurance coverage
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in an educational or institutional setting
- Certifications in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work
Hiring salary range is $51,761 - $59,526
Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
