Role:The Health Information Management (HIM) Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and guidance to HIM/Coding Staff for all HIM services to support the Organization’s strategic plan and vision. Monitors, trends and forecasts HIM Systems (HIMS) staffing needs and ensures workload is performed in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for managing and protecting patient health information.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory/management experience
- Knowledgeable in ICD-10 medical coding
- Experience with developing and implementing training materials and programs, including setting performance goals and establishing metrics for measuring achievements
- Demonstrates professional integrity and work values while acting to best further the mission of the Company
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with Internal and External customers
- Proficient in management of electronic and paper medical records
- Practices the concepts of privacy and confidentiality
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications

Job Responsibilities:
- Serves as an internal consultant on health information management issues including release of information, confidentiality, information privacy, information storage and retrieval, record retention as well as authorship and authentication of medical record documentation.
- Provides direct managerial oversite for HIM staff in management and timelines of work, work process and overall workload and responsibility. Promotes a culture of innovation and excellence in the provisions of the HIM services provided.
- Implements and maintains medical records systems that will meet or exceed compliance with all Federal and State regulations, Joint Commission and health information standards.
- Reviews and updates HIMS workflow, procedures, and practice guidelines to ensure they are aligned and comply with organizational policies and support standardization of health information management operations in the Organization.
- Monitors deficiency rates for each affiliate to support successful month end close outcomes; and to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in chart completion to meet Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
- Maintains a good working relationship with medical staff and other organizational leadership to support optimal patient service delivery.
- Ensures adherence to the Organization’s policies and procedures and productivity standards.
- Takes initiative to make decisions and advocates for change.
- Performs other duties as requested.
