Immigration experience is highly preferred.Job Description SummaryThe University of South Alabama’s department of Global USA is seeking to hire a Manager, Immigration. Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.Essential Functions- Consults with the AVP of Global Engagement, the attorney’s office at USA and obtained immigration legal counsel on immigration-related matters pertaining to the employment and retention of international scholars.
- Interprets, implements, disseminates and ensures compliance of all federal and state regulations related to managing and administering USA immigration policies.
- Responsible for immigration case management, processing and advising on all work-related nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions.
- Manages, prepares and submits Labor Condition Applications (LCA), Permanent Labor Certifications (PERM), Prevailing Wage Determinations (PWD) filed with DOL on behalf of the University.
- Serves as the responsible Officer (RO) managing the University’s J-1 program for international scholars as outlined in 22 CFR 62.11.
- Advises and assists USA sponsoring departments and foreign national participants as needed.
- Maintains all program and participant files in SEVIS including the completion of required reporting of immigration data pertaining to international scholars per 22 CFR 62.9(g) and 22 CFR 62.11.
- Prepares Form DS-2019 in SEVIS for future and continuing international scholars.
- Serves as the Designated School Official (DSO) assisting with the University’s F1 and J1 student programs.
- Manages all areas of employment-based petitions filed on behalf of the University of South Alabama, USA Healthcare Management, LLC, and USA Healthcare Authority to include permanent residency, J-1 212(e) waivers, 212e advisory opinions, O, H and TN petitions.
- Manages the complete application process in ECFMG’s Exchange Visitor Network (EVNet) for current and future international resident/fellow house staff members applying to participate in the USA GME programs.
- Reviews applications of prospective residents/fellows in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) under the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
- Advises the USA Office of Graduate Medical Education regarding the eligibility of international residents/fellows applying to participate in or continuing participation in USA’s GME programs.
- Provides departmental training on immigration, employment-based sponsorship of foreign nationals and related employment issues.
- Works with other USA departments regarding immigration related matters and to ensure consistent protocol regarding the hiring and sponsorship of foreign nationals.
- Evaluates the credentials of foreign nationals to determine the proper nonimmigrant status for employment.
- Responsible for evaluating and making recommendations of a sensitive and non-sensitive nature regarding routing and non-routine immigration matters.
- Advises USA departments and foreign employees regarding nonimmigrant/immigrant status and other immigration requirements and policies.
- Prepares and maintains Public Inspection Files in accordance with DOL and verifies employment eligibility for foreign nationals in accordance with U.S. government regulations.
- Serves as an appointed webmaster responsible for the maintenance of the Office of Immigration e-forms and web content.
- Provides direction, guidance and assistance regarding international faculty, foreign scholars and guests to departments and foreign nationals in the interpretation of U.S. government regulations, including changes mandated by DOS, DHS, DOL, USCIS, ICE and any other federal and state government entities.
- Conducts orientations for foreign nationals to include information regarding various types of visas (J, H-1B, TN and O), cultural adjustment, academic and English language difficulties, financial concerns, health insurance/care and other related issues.
- Participates in professional training workshops, national and regional conference to stay abreast of current federal and state regulations.
- Serves on university committees as needed.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
