Responsibilities

Howmet Engines seeks an experienced professional to join our team! The Manager of Metrology and Nondestructive Testing (NDT) measurement will lead and oversee all activities related to inspection, testing, calibration, and measurement systems within the Airfoils organization. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines while driving accuracy, reliability, and continuous improvement of processes. This role is based in Whitehall, MI and will travel to other Airfoils locations. This role reports directly to the Airfoils Director of Engineering in the Engines business unit.

Position will be based in Whitehall, Michigan. Will consider candidates local to all US Airfoils Segment locations.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead the NDT measurement and Metrology strategies to include

  • Layout
  • Gauging
  • Airflow
  • CMM
  • Structured light measurement
  • GOM experience

• Serve as the subject matter expert on NDT measurement and metrology technologies, tools, and best practices.

Quality & Compliance

• Partner with Quality Assurance and Engineering teams to maintain compliance with customer contracts, FAA, DoD, or other regulatory requirements.
• Support audits, certifications, and customer inspections by preparing documentation and representing NDT and metrology functions.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and reliability in inspection and measurement processes.

Continuous Improvement/Innovation

• Champion continuous improvement projects to enhance efficiency, throughput, and accuracy of NDT measurement and metrology functions.
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
• Drive initiatives to reduce nonconformances and improve first-pass yield.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related field and a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in NDT and Metrology with at least 3 yrs in a leadership role OR a minimum of 11 years of progressive experience in NDT and Metrology with at least 3 yrs in a leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications:

• ASNT Level III certification in at least one method strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 17025, AS9100, and related industry standards.
• Hands-on experience with advanced metrology systems (e.g., CMM, GD&T, laser scanning).
• Proven track record of leading teams, managing budgets, and driving process improvements.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
