The Manager, Nuclear Physics - Radiation Safety Officer will support both the Site Head and Director of Health Physics in ensuring successful development of new radionuclide technologies and safe operations at the RayzeBio Manufacturing sites. The candidate will provide technical support to implement novel technologies being investigated at RayzeBio. The candidate will also provide technical health physics and EHS support to various departments within RayzeBio.

Job Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Innovate and develop novel processes for the manufacturing of various radioisotopes.
  • Work cross functionally with scientific and engineering teams on complex capital projects.
  • Maintain and implement policies and procedures in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety (EHS) and radiological protection regulations and associated programs at the site.
  • Ensure a culture of safety is maintained and prioritized by all employees.
  • Perform health physics and EHS evaluations, audits, and initiatives at RayzeBio manufacturing site(s).
  • Provide, prepare, and coordinate didactic and hands-on training, as required.
  • Oversee and manage the processing of various radiological, chemical, and biological waste streams.
  • Develop practices and procedures to monitor and track radioactive inventory and waste.
  • Assist with incident investigations and identifying root cause and corrective actions.
  • Host regulatory agency inspections and licensing activities.
  • Oversee and manage a team of professional EHS and Health Physics staff.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Highly motivated and organized individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to successfully work independently and interface with other departments in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with industry technologies and production methods.
  • Strong assessment and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to utilize and interpret various Health Physics monitoring equipment (air sampling, hand-held meters, etc.).
  • Ability to efficiently use MS Office, VelocityEHS, SAP, and other associated software systems.
  • Excellent professional ethics, integrity, and ability to maintain confidential information.

Basic Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Health Physics, Environmental Science, Engineering, or relevant scientific field.
  • 5+ years direct experience in Health Physics
  • Proven experience as a Radiation Safety Officer (must meet the requirements of 10 CFR 35.50 to be listed as Radiation Safety Officer on RayzeBio’s Nuclear Regulatory Commission radioactive materials licenses).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of radiological protection and associated government regulations (Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or Agreement State).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in medical health physics, alpha/beta materials and/or radiopharmaceuticals highly preferred.
  • Certification by accepted radiological protection organization (CHP, NRRPT)

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

This is a position that requires working in laboratory and vivarium environments that contain chemicals and radioactive materials. Protective clothing, gloves, and safety glasses are required while performing work in these areas. The employee must be able to pass all aspects of respirator fit testing, including medical clearance.

Compensation Overview:

Indianapolis - RayzeBio - IN: $124,449 - $150,803 


The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
